  9. My desi father narrates one of his experiences with a white racist:

    • (at dinner - a long time ago)
    • Dad: And so - tell your sister to pass me the chutney - he tells me to "get lost" and return to my "sandnigger country". I was young and just got American citizenship but as you know already: Brown man with American citizenship is blasphemy for many still!
    • Him: Ha ha ha. Stupid donkey.
    • Him: I said to him - wait. This chutney is not salty enough. Pass me the salt. Okay, so I said to him, "Oh, you stupid, uneducated, foulmouthed donkey! I pay more taxes than your mother! I will not leave this country until you make it up to me and the millions of people your ancestors invaded and robbed! You never even paid your taxes there! Foolish boy! What will you do when a brown and black man picks up a history book and finds out about the lies you have told us and our children for "our own good"! Hmm? No answer? Stupid donkey has no answer and never will!"
    • Him: Your mother thought I should've replaced 'stupid donkey' with something meaner.
    • Him: I'm not as mean as I should be.
    • Him: Brown man. American citizenship. Allah is mysterious in His ways.
